First Entry of 2008

Happy New Year Everyone.  I haven't written in here in a while, so I'll write about some fun stuff that's happened the past month.  (I'm writing this at 2am in the morning, and I only had 3 hours of sleep the night before.. more on that later)

So I was in Florida for the last 2 weeks of December. I finally watched a live NFL game, the Bucs vs the Falcons and of course the leafs since they were visting. Of course the leafs blew the lead and let in the go ahead goal with 40 seconds left in the game... I was in Tampa the first week, Miami the 2nd week with a road trip to Key West.   It was a great trip, I got most of the items on my shopping list.

I've been to 4 sporting events in the last month, and they're 2-2.  i went to two raptors games, on Jan 6th, and Jan 9th, the raptors blew a 20 point lead going into the 4th... anyways, back to my 3 hours of sleep... I had a Company Conference in Toronto from January 10th to 12th.  It was located at the Park Hyatt in Toronto (Bloor-Yorkville area).  So that morning when I drove up, i gave my car to the valet and checked in (oh yeah, everyone had to stay at the hotel during the conference. (No complaints here, it's the Park Hyatt).  The room was pretty nice, two beds, a desk, nice washroom. Pretty standard.  I was in the South Tower.  During the conference we ate really, I was really surprised.  Everyone knows I love food, so here's what we had.  Breakfast was the standard bacon/sausage/scrambled eggs/fruit.  The first day at lunch, we had really good beef and chicken (everything is a buffet at the hotel).  Before dinner, they had an open bar at the Roof Lounge on the 18th floor.  The View was amazing.  For dinner, they had lobster, lamb, smoked salmon, beef and quail.  I had two half lobsters :P  We went back to the bar for more drinks, slept around 3, woke up at 7:30 (4.5 hours of sleep).

The following day, lunch was Salmon and beef.  The company booked off 3.5 hours during the recerational time at the Clearwater spa, the top 3 spa's in North Amerca.  It was great, especially after 2 days. For dinner, we went to Flow - Restaurant and Lounge just around the hotel. They shut it down for us, the dinner was really good. I had the snapper.  We headed downstairs after to the open bar.  Surprisingly it wasn't that bad, the music could have been better, but free alcohol is always good.  After last call, the CEO arranged to open up a board room at the Hotel, so a bunch of us walked back to hotel and continued the party.  We were hungry around 4, so we ordered pizza, so I got back to my hotel room around 5:30 in the morning.  I woke up at 8:30 (3 hours of sleep), I had to pack and check out and continue with the conference.

That was basically my weekend.. lol.  I'm pretty excited about the year.. a great start :)

Depreciating assets

This was sent to me at work..

THIS APPEARED ON CRAIG'S LIST

What am I doing wrong?
Okay, I'm tired of beating around the bush. I'm a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I'm articulate and classy.  I'm not from New York. I'm looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don't think I'm overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around 200 - 250. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won't get me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she's not as pretty as I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I get to her level?

Here are my questions specifically:
- Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars, restaurants, gyms
-What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won't hurt my feelings
- Is there an age range I should be targeting (I'm 25)?
- Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane' boring types who have nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I've seen drop dead gorgeous
girls in singles bars in the east village. What's the story there?
- Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows - lawyer, investment banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out?
- How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for MARRIAGE ONLY

Please hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in an honest way.
Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm being up front about it.
I wouldn't be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn't able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a nice home and hearth.

THE ANSWER
Dear Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament.  Firstly, I'm not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your bill;
that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here's how I see it.  Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a crappy business deal. Here's why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring my money. Fine, simple. But here's the rub, your looks will fade and my money will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is very likely that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won't be getting any more beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation accelerates!
Let me explain, you're 25 now and will likely stay pretty hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy and hold...hence the rub...marriage. It doesn't make good business sense to "buy you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather lease. In case you
think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It's as simple as that.

So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage. Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets. So, I wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful" as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard to believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K hasn't
found you, if not only for a tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then we wouldn't need to have this difficult conversation.  With all that said, I must say you're going about it the right way. Classic "pump and dump."
I hope this is helpful, and if you want to enter into some sort of lease, let me know.

The Month of July

The last three weeks have been pretty hectic.  I was in Philly the week of the 9th.  It was tiring, but fun, my first time on a business trip.  The office isn't in the downtown core, it's about 25 minutes away, sort of like Markham is to Toronto.  So I was there Tuesday to Friday.  The following week I was in Toronto on the Monday, so I left work early to go play golf.  I didn't do that well, I really need to take lessons, the problem is I don't have time.  I flew out to Philly on Tuesday night, my GPS was off by a couple miles, so it took me awhile to find the hotel, but I eventually found it.  So I didn't really do much, went to the 2nd largest mall in the US, nothing too fun.  I flew to Ottawa on Friday to go white water rafting.  That was a great weekend, I was so tired, got back Sunday night, had dinner, went home and unpacked all my rafting stuff, grabbed new clothes, packed, and I was in bed around midnight.  I got up at 3am, and went back to the airport, flew to PA, got into the office around 10am.  That night we took some customers out for dinner, so I didn't get home until 10pm, but the food was good.  This week I met up with Deborah's brother, since he works in Philly.  We went to a couple bars, grabbed some dinner and showed me some parts of philly.  I went back to the hotel, and he went back to work, this was around 10:30pm :S  This weekend we had 3 softball games, won two, lost one, all three were close games.  That's basically it for my month of July.  hopefully August will be as fun as July, and I think it will, i'm going camping next week for the very first time.

Superbowl

So Friday after work, I spent two hours setting up the digital boxes in my family room and basement, it's been over a year since I setup the basement, took me awhile to remember all the settings and assigning digital/optical inputs.  After I had it up and running, I met up with Tania and one of her friends place, where they were playing Poker, Casino style.  I haven't played Poker for money in maybe 2 years, and the last time I played poker was Christmas 2005 at Horseshoe resort, when I was teaching my parents how to play, lol.  Let's just say i lost all my money on the first hand, lol..  So I sat out for a bit, tried to remember everything, and then bought back into the game.  In the end, I ended up on top, which basically pays for one or two lunches downtown, but it was fun. that's all that matters.  It was great to get out of the house, since a lot of people are studying for CFA/CMA/CSC, and Nicole's in Hamilton for the weekend.

Saturday I bought $50 worth of Haagen-Dazs because it was on sale.  I had to go to Loblaws twice, difference flavours, and the first time i went i didn't get the flavour Nicole wanted, whoops :p  In my defense, when we go for ice cream, it's always Gelato, can't afford Haagen-Dazs.

Saturday night, I went to La Fiesta Chugfest 2007, it was good, saw some familar faces, bumped into a couple sponsors at the event that I know, they were all asking where is Nicole.. :S

Sunday was superbowl weekend, went to Sam's club to buy some snacks, and I had a couple over to watch the superbowl on my 100" :) The HD feed was amazing, Football in HD is great, since there's so many colours, everything is clear, and I love the view of the whole field.  Can't expect that with Hockey.. but at least the hockey players will look normal, not rounded.
